Judith Kay was born on February 16, 1944, in Cherokee, Iowa. The daughter of George and Elva (Holck) Cole, she grew up near Sutherland on a family farm. After graduating from Sutherland High School in 1962, she attended State College of Iowa (UNI) for a year. She then moved to Ames in 1963 to work as a librarian for the National Animal Disease Lab until 1969.
She and Dean were married on September 2, 1967. In 1969, they moved to Clinton, Iowa, where they raised their three children. Judy was a stay-at-home mom who volunteered at school before working 10 years as a secretary at First United Methodist Church. When not cheering on the Cyclones, she loved to travel and explore. In Ames, she also enjoyed the community of FUMC of Ames, volunteering, watching birds, playing cards, tapping her knees to music, and spending time with family.
Judy is survived by her husband, Dean Sampson, of Ames, their children, Jon and his wife Tammera Sampson and their sons; Benjamin and Everett of Carroll, Troy and his wife Joanna Kee Sampson of Jacksonville, Fl; and Amy and her husband Eric Duning and their sons, Ike and Gus all of Boise Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Elva Cole and her sister, Carole Brooks.
