Robert R. “Bob” Samuelson, 92, of Ames, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021, at Northcrest Healthcare in Ames.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2021, in the Grand Room at Northcrest Community, 2300 Northcrest Parkway, Ames, IA 50010. Everyone attending will need to wear a mask and will be screened for COVID when entering the building. Inurnment will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Robert Roy Samuelson was born September 18, 1929, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, the son of Hjalmar and Eva (Barr) Samuelson. He graduated from Devils Lake High School and attended Jamestown College. Bob served in the armed forces in Japan, during the Korean Conflict, and after his honorable discharge, he attended the University of North Dakota and graduated in 1955.
Bob was united in marriage to Janice J. Peltier on May 28, 1955, in Arthur, North Dakota, and they made their home in Iowa. He worked as a civil engineer, for 37 years, for the Iowa Department of Transportation and retired in 1991.
His greatest delight came in helping others, both adults and children. Bob did this through the Friendship Ark, Mainstream Living, The Story County Development Center, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, volunteering at Mary Greeley Medical Center, The Church, driving for Road to Recovery, and serving on Resident Advocate Committees.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janice J. Samuelson of Ames; son, Mark (Suzanne) Samuelson of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Peggy (Jerry) Ulicki of Fort Dodge, Iowa; son, Jim (Jane) Samuelson of Minnetrista, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jerod (Kat) Ulicki, Jessica Samuelson, Janae (Kyle) Hewitt; step-granddaughter, Becky (Bryan) Smouse; brother, Stan (Carol) Samuelson; sister, Marge Fox; brother-in-law, Norm Jacobson; and sister-in-law, Norma Peltier. He is also blessed with 4 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Samuelson; grandson, Jordan Ulicki; sister, Maureen Jacobson; and brothers-in-law, Dick Fox, and Joe Peltier.
